The VUELA Program uses a three-tiered approach to battle inequity in special education.

Building Advocacy Programs

We work with community partners to build and structure locally-held special education advocacy programs. Parent trainers provide education to parents and students about their civil rights in the special education process.

Professional Development

We design and present professional development to schools and community stakeholders about improving school-community relations and maintaining compliance regulations as they relate to special education.

Research

Through our work in communities and with schools, we conduct research with parents and schools about parent needs and how schools can further connect with families.

Our Mission and Core Values

Mission

Our work is focused on empowering families and communities to attain equality in Special Education learning and access. At VUELA, we work to build advocacy programs and train parents in both English and Spanish about their rights in special education. We work with schools and other community stakeholders to train on building and facilitating positive relationships with the community.

Vision

We envision a world where families can navigate the special education process in their native language without fear or worry of repercussion. We believe that all families deserve to be informed and held in valued esteem as the expert in their child’s learning.
